Low cost restaurants
Dorfstuben
Dorfstuben Restaurant. This is a nice traditional restaurant in the heart of the village. The menu is quite extensive with plenty of traditional Tyrolian & Austrian dishes. The service is very good, with waitresses in the traditional dirndl dress. A nice place to go and eat with the family. You can also have a drink in the bar beforehand which is always vibrant, especially for après ski. You will find Dorf Stub’n underneath the Hotel Kristall in the main pedestrian area. After your meal you could also venture downstairs to Bobos and party into the night. Dorfstub’n gets one of our Top St Anton Restaurants recommendations. The address is Dorfstrasse 60, Sankt Anton, Tel: 0043 5446 2848
Floriani
Floriani. Here is a great place to go if you have kids, all kids love pizza and this is a very good Italian restaurant. There is a great menu with an atmosphere to match. Very cosy and close to the town centre as well as being extremely reasonably priced. One of our favourite places to go and eat with friends. You can not book ahead so you need to be early or prepared to wait. There is a little bar to sit and have a drink at whilst waiting. To find Floriani just walk up the hill from the roundabout below the Galzigbahn and it is about 200 metres up on the left. Address is Alte Arlbergstrasse 13, Sankt Anton, Tel: 0043 5446 2330
Grieswirt
Grieswirt. This restaurant just off from the village centre offers good value traditional Austrian food. It is now run by Alexander and Sabine Kertiss who have the Lux Alpinae hotel so you know that the food will be very good. It is very reasonably priced and is furnished in a simple, traditional Austrian style so is well worth checking out. The restaurant is next door to Pub 37. At the Nasserein end of the pedestrian zone turn right and it is on the right. The address is Im Gries 4, Sankt Anton, Tel: 0043 5446 30261
Pomodoro
The famous Pomodoro is the main pizza restaurant in St.Anton. It is situated next to the tourist office and underneath the Haus Zentral at the Galzig end of the village. It is very lively & loud in here, more of a pizza hut than an Italian restaurant like the Floriani up the road. Friendly staff but very busy early evening. You cannot make reservations so get there early. You can also get a take away pizza here if you want to stay in and watch the TV with your pizza! The address is Dorfstrasse 14, Sankt Anton, Tel: 0043 5446 3333
Skiing Buddha
The Skiing Buddha If you like Asian food then this could be the place for you. You will find the Skiing Buddha in the unlikely location of the Arlrock climbing hall adjacent to the railway station. The food here is good and the portions are very big. It is also very sensibly priced and nicely presented. It has quickly gained a good reputation and is becoming very popular which tells you all that you need to know. You can also get a take away meal and there is free internet throughout the restaurant. The address is Bahnhofstrasse 1, Sankt Anton, Tel: 0043 5446 26252
Ganderwirt
The Ganderwirt. This is a really friendly restaurant just outside St.Anton in the Gand area of St.Jakob. You will be assured of a very warm welcome here along with some excellent home cooked food. If Hirsch (Deer most likely locally sourced) is on the menu I would strongly recommend that you try it. There is a great selection of wine and schnapps too!! The restaurant, which is a haunt of many locals, has a very homely feel to it and has cosy wood panelling throughout. If you like to eat somewhere with a real local Austrian feel to it then this could just be the place for you. As the restaurant is in the village of St.Jakob that joins St.Anton the best way to get there is by taxi. It is definitely worth the taxi ride for the prices alone. You should book in advance as it gets busy. Ganderwirt gets one of our top St Anton restaurants recommendations. Address is Oberganderweg 14, St.Jakob, Tel: 0043 5446 25730
Medium Cost Restaurants
Bodega
Bodega Tapis Bar & Restaurant. This is a very popular and lovely little place to eat or drink. It has a great atmosphere and is one of our favourite places. Spanish in style and very busy so it is best to get there as early as possible. The do not take bookings so be prepared to wait a while for a table if you are intending to eat. Always a great atmosphere in here and the best thing with tapis is that you can all share, try different things and just keep ordering more! The wine is also very good and there is a reasonable selection. The dishes range between 10 – 15 euro. To find Bodega walk along the Dorfstrasse (the main street) and you will see it, slightly set back and more or less opposite the Post Hotel. The address is Dorfstrasse 40, Sankt Anton. Tel: 0043 5446 42788
Galzig Bistro
The Galzig Bistro. Opened in 2013, this great bar / bistro has now become one of the most popular places to meet, eat & drink in St.Anton. Whether it is for an apres ski snack or an evening meal the food here is extremely good. You will find both indoor and outdoor seating with a bar in each area. Food is a mix of local and international dishes – They do really great fish & chips and burgers as well as neuveau cuisine! The Galzig Bistro is situated on the roundabout at the top of the village centre between the Rendlbahn & Galzigbahn. They also serve some pretty good cocktails and wines. The Galzig Bistro gets one of our top St Anton restaurants recommendations. Address is Kandaharweg 2, Sankt Anton, Tel: 0043 5446 42541
Griabli
Griabli. After the après ski crowd have disappeared down the slopes the Griabli transforms itself into a very nice restaurant. The menu is mostly traditional Austrian cuisine and ranges from small snacks to fine main dishes. So if you would like to eat up on the slopes then his is definitely a good option. There is also a real fire in the main dining and bar area. You will need to take a taxi up there as it is quite a long walk. Do not be tempted to try and walk down the slope afterwards – it is steep, slippery and a certain way to get a trip to hospital… The address is Untere Mooserweg 7, Sankt Anton, Tel: 0043 5446 3673
Haus Schindler
Haus Schindler. This great little hotel is one of the best-kept secrets in St.Anton. Not many tourists would know just how good a restaurant it has or even that it is a restaurant at all. The food is generally traditional with fresh local produce being used. There is a nice selection of good international wines with some very nice Austrian labels included. The restaurant itself is very cosy with just two small dining areas. Booking is essential as it is very popular with the locals. To find Haus Schindler head up the hill (Alte Arlbergstrasse) from the roundabout below the Galzig bahn. You will find Haus Schindler about 200m up the hill on the right – but remember booking is essential. Haus Schindler gets one of our top St Anton restaurants recommendations. The address is 16 Alte Arlbergstrasse. Tel: 0043 5446 2207
Sonnbichl
The Sonnbichl hotel. This restaurant is a little out of the main village area of St.Anton but it is well worth a visit as it is one of the very best places to eat. The food is wonderful with many traditional Austrian dishes on the menu. The dining area is very cosy and in the fashion of an old farmhouse stube. Lots of wood panelling and subtle lighting make this a lovely place to enjoy a romantic evening. There is an excellent wine list and prices are not over the top. Booking is essential and you may even have to book before you even arrive in St.Anton! To get to the Sonnbichl you should head along the road between Nasserein and St.Jakob and the hotel is on your left. It is about a 20 minute walk from St.Anton centre so it is probably best to take a taxi – well worth the cost! You will certainly have to book several days in advance! The address is St.Jakober Dorfstrasse 11, St.Jakob, Tel: 0043 5446 2243
Waldhof Hotel
The Waldhof Hotel is owned by Michael Ladner who has a deserved reputation as a great chef and restaurateur. The hotel restaurant is open to non-residents which is great news for those of us who love great food! There is not an “a la carte” menu and you will get the same choice as residents of the hotel but do not let this put you off. The food and presentation will be one of the dining experiences of your holiday. The Waldhof is situated out of the village centre in the Stadle area of St.Anton. Depending on where you are staying you may wish to order a taxi. Booking is advised and the address is Stadleweg 40, Sankt Anton, Tel: 0043 5446 40509
Food on Fire
Food on Fire. This is a restaurant with a difference. The meat and fish is cooked with a special charcoal grill at very high temperatures. Most dishes will be served with either a salad or a baked potato – if you are a meat lover this is the place for you. Our recommendation is for the lamb chops – wonderful. Also Andy the owner has a Mojito machine that will make you Mojito with real sugar cane. Sometimes he will even let you use the machine to make your own! Nice atmosphere and always busy so you will need to book. It is on the main road opposite the railway station. Address is Arlbergstrasse 61, Tel: +43 5446 30390
High Cost Restaurants
Antoner Hof
Der Antoner Hof Hotel. This five star hotel boasts one of the best restaurants in St.Anton and it is a real gastronomic treat. One of our favourite places to eat in St.Anton. A superb wine list compliments a wonderful menu in Raffl’s Eat Art restaurant. An ideal place for a celebration, the little stube (dining room) has a real fire and a lovely cosy feel to it. The lighting is just right too, very romantic. The table service is, of course, excellent and there is a great bar serving the very best cocktails in St.Anton. To reach the Der Antoner Hof turn off the pedestrian area by the Sport Hotel and walk down to the main road, turn left and it is about 150 metres on your left. Booking is a must. The address is Arlbergstrasse 69, Sankt Anton, Tel: 0043 5446 29100
The Museum
The Museum Restaurant is one of the nicest settings in which to eat in St.Anton. Originally built in 1912 and then renovated in 1978. Today it is not only a restaurant but also a ski museum. After your main course spend a few minutes upstairs wandering through the little rooms of the museum. Here you will find all sorts of items and information pertaining to the Arlberg, Skiing and it’s history. There are rooms dedicated to Hannes Schneider the pioneer of the modern Arlberg ski technique and also to the old Hospiz in St.Christoph. The food here is extremely good and you will not find a better setting, be it for a romantic meal or end of holiday celebration. There is a good and extensive wine list and you really should try the Austrian reds. To find your way to the Museum head up the hill from the roundabout at the bottom of the Galzig Gondola station (Alte Arlbergstrasse) and after about 100m turn right into Rudi Matt Weg, the museum is on the left adjacent to the ski slope just after the “Underground on the Piste” après ski bar. You will need to book in advance. Address is Rudi Matt Weg 10, Sankt Anton, Tel: 0043 5446 2475
Hotel Post
The Hotel Post is one of the top hotels in the village so it is only to be expected that it has an extremely good restaurant. There are two dining areas, my preference being for the cosy little stub’n as opposed to the large main dining area which is normally only for hotel guests. There are two choices of menu, both featuring a good variety of international and local dishes. The wine list is also extensive and we recommend that you try an Austrian wine from the Burganland region, these are especially good. The Hotel Post is in the centre of the village on the left as you walk down from the Galzig end. Booking is normally a must. The address is Walter Schuler Weg 2, Sankt Anton, Tel: 0043 5446 22130
Schwarzer Adler
The Schwarzer Adler. The food in this hotel is extremely good and if possible you should book to eat in the original “Alte Stube” (old dining room). This is the oldest original ding room in St.Anton is over 400 years old. It is a lovely place to eat with mainly traditional tyrolean cuisene. Food is prepared to a very high standard by head chef Stephen Dialer. The restaurant uses only fresh produce, much of which is grown at the local farm owned by the hotel. The wine list is pretty extensive with a good selection from around the globe not just Austria. But our recommendation is of course the Austrian wines which are now rated as some of the best in the world. Booking will be essential especially to eat in the old stube. Prices are reasonable and you are guaranteed a great occasion. The Schwarzer Adler gets one of our top St Anton restaurants recommendations. The address is Dorfstrasse 35, Sankt Anton, Tel: 0043 5446 22440
Verwall Stube
The Verwall Stube. Gourmet cuisine at its finest is to be found at the Verwall Stube high up on the mountain at Galzig. The Verwallstube is open each day for lunch and lays claim to being St Anton’s most sophisticated mountain restaurant. However every Thursday evening it is open from 7 – 11pm offering a candlelit dinner to the accompaniment of live piano music all at 2000 metres! So if you are looking for a romantic culinary experience of the highest level why not take a nitetime ride up the Galzigbahn (wrap up warm for this ride!!) to this restaurant. Booking is essential. Tel: 0043 5446 2352
Mooser Hotel
Vinzenz at the Mooser. Probably the restaurant with the best views over St.Anton as it is to be found in the Mooser Hotel situated on the slopes above the village. Amazing glass windows offer fantastic views of St.Anton below. Also you will have the best seats to watch the drunken and funny antics of the aprés skiers leaving the famous Mooserwirt bar around 8pm! Food here is very good and the bar is one of our favourites with great service and cool cocktails. Booking is essential and a taxi to get there too. Address is Untere Mooserweg 2, Sankt Anton, Tel: 0043 5446 2644
