St.Anton in Pictures

Here I am displaying some great pictures that I have from around St.Anton and on the ski slopes, both in winter and summer. These photographs should give yo a good idea of just how beautiful it is here in the mountains around St.Anton. If you would like a copy of one of these photographs then I do sell large high quality prints of any of the pictures that I display. If you would like to make a purchase then email me and I can quote you a price.

White Forest.

This photo was taken whilst touring up to Kapall before the lifts open for this season. It was a lovely day with a clear blue sky. The fresh snow was heavy on the branches of the trees and it makes a beautiful sight.

Jennewein Shop.

This photo is of the new Jennewein Sports shop in St.Anton whilst it is lit up on the opening night. I went down there early to get the photo before the many hundreds of people arrived for the opening party.

Mountains.

There are many things about this picture that reveal just how beautiful it is up in the mountains. The clouds moving slowly through the valley and the forests silhouetted against the mountains in the background. It was taken a few summers ago whilst out for a very long walk to the Edmund Graf Hutte.

Zammermoosbahn.

The Zammermoosbahn, a very cold morning with all the metal frosted over - you can almost feel the frost coming out of the photo. The deep blue colour of the sky is reflected in the glass - I just love it.

Piste Marker.

This is another of my favourite shots, I like everything about it - the clouds, the sun, the glistening crystalls in the snow and the solitary marker sticking, lopsided out of the snow. It looked good in colourtoo but I preferred the black & white version.

On Moroi.

This shot was taken at the top of Albona, we were just standing looking down into the bowl that we were about to ski into on our way down into Verwall. I deliberately took the shot looking into the sun knowing the effect it would give.

Three Trees.

This photo was taken in mountains above Langen and i had to work hard with photoshop to get the colours as I wanted them and keep just the outline of the trees up on the ridge. The nice thing about walking up in the mountain areas are all the photo opportunities you find.

Sun & Piste.

This was taken on Albona when were walking out to the slopes above the air vent in search of some nice powder. I remember waiting until everyone had gone as I just wanted the sun, the snow & the mountains. Of course once I had taken the shot I had to hurry along to catch everybody up but I think it was worth it. For me it captures the essence of skiing off piste - the beauty and tranquility you find.

Lech Chairlift.

The attractions of this photo to me are the very clear cut lines and the contrast between light and dark. Again this is a photo that was nothing special until I converted it to black and white.

Pathway.

A shot from the summer, so few people realise just how beautiful it is here in St.Anton during the summer months. This is on one of the many little paths that meander around the mountains. I particularly like the different shades of green and the contrast between the light and shadow.

Netting.

This is up on Kapall, I was waiting for some friends to make their way up on the chair lift so was just taking a few pictures to pass the time. In colour it is not much at all but by converting it to black and white it becomes much more interesting. I like the way that the Galzig throws such a large shadow across the valley.

Moody Lake.

This picture was taken the same time as the shot of the mountain biker that is shown below. I really like the way that the light is coming through the clouds and across the reservoir. Quite a moody little photo.

Autumn Trees.

This was taken during October whilst on a nice walk outside St.Anton on Antonias Weg. It was the time of the year when we are moving into Autumn and all the colours are changing, just look at all the different colours that can be found in this small group of trees.

Afternoon Sun.

This photo was taken late in the day, when our little group was heading for some apres ski after a days skiing. The sun was just getting low so I hung back and waiting until the guys were walking towards it to get this shot. I think it sums up a great days skiing.

Zammermoos.

This is one of my favourite photo's. It is the Zammermoos chairlift but it looks more like some strange extra terrestrial craft. I think that it just looks amazing, it did not work in colour but black and white just makes it. What more can I say.

Lech.

This picture is years old, I took it when I first started skiing in the Arlberg and all I can remember is that it is somewhere between Lech & Zurs. It has spent lots of time in photoshop and I also had to remove a couple of people who were skiing the distance - bet you can't spot them !

The Dead Tree.

Sitting up above St.Anton on Antonia's Weg I saw this old tree pointing skywards but at the same time seeming to creep across the earth -I thought it would make a good photo - it did but after lots of work in photoshop to get just the colours and contrasts that I wanted.

Leaves.

Just some leaves on the ground, but they say Autumn and for such a simple picture I think that they are very effective - there again maybe you will think that they are just a pile of leaves... but most people who have seen the photo like it, so it's on here.

Lovely Larch.

Lovely Larch, A nice little off piste area in St.Anton that I only discovered last season. Great snow and very pretty but best of all not very many people ski in there so you tend to get it mainly to yourself (and no I am not saying exactly where it is!) This did not seem to great a shot when I took it but when I saw it on the pc it just looked great.

The Lone Pine.

This picture is from the spring towards the end of last season. I was at the Rendlbahn waiting for some friends to go touring and I could see this one, lone tree standing up tall and proud with the mountains far, far away in the distance. Quite a nice shot once I had played about with it in photoshop to get rid of a few distractions!

White Christmas.

This picture was taken during the Christmas period a couple of seasons ago. Three of us were making our way off piste down from the Galzig to St.Christoph, it was a clear beautiful day but bitterley cold. I looked up and saw these two trees, everything was totally white except for the ski which was a brilliant blue colour. I knew it would make a great picture.

Trees.

This picture was talking in late October when it was still really hot and sunny. It is in the forest above St.Jakob. I loved the way the light was just coming through the trees and giving a great mix of light and shadow.

The Full Moon.
This photo was actually taken from the petrol station in St.Anton whilst filling up as I set off to Italy! The moon was just appearing from behind the mountains and I have a great sequence of shots as it slowly come into full view.

Green Grass.

Whilst walking up above Langen I just took a picture of the long grass, when I put in onto the pc and played around with it in photoshop I arrived at this effect - quite nice -hope you agree.

Mountain Biking.

Having cycled up to the Galzig from St.Christoph we made our way to the reservoir at the top of Galzig and I took this photo into the sun, throwing the bike rider into darkness - I am very happy with the effect that I achieved -especially the clouds.

Draglift at Sunset.

Late in the afternoon whilst skiing up on Blue Osthang I saw the sun moving behind the mountain and chairlift so I waited until I had the perfect shot. I think that it looks great!

Galzigbahn.

The new space age Galzigbahn opened in St.Anton. After skiing down late one afternoon I noticed that the sun was reflecting off the bahn and that it looked fantastic - this pic is the result...

Christmas Trees.

Whilst skiing off piste on the Valuga hangs, very close to the Ulmer Hutte I saw these two trees, totally covered in snow and framed by a clear blue sky - just had to stop and whip the camera out.

Picnic Spot.

This Photo is only really special because of the location. One of the best things about going touring is that you always end up in a really great picnic spot, very exclusive! If the weather is good you have amazing views, peace & quiet and the prospect of some great skiing on the way down.
